Digital Foundations Sample Assignment
Stop Motion Exquisite Corpse
After a brief introduction to digital video cameras, digital still cameras, tripods, lighting, and asset management, students are given the following assignment:
- Create a 300 frame stop motion animation with no restriction on materials or methods.
- Using Adobe Bridge or the Finder, name your files clearly and consistently. Pass your last 90 frames to an assigned partner. Use the network, a flash drive, a CD, or DVD.
- Working with your partner's last 90 frames, make a transition from the end of their animation to the beginning of your animation.
- Using After Effects or Final Cut Pro, render the animation into a single video.
Pedagogical Goals:
- Technically, a simple workflow for animation projects.
- Logistically, teaching asset management for sharing files.
- Formally, a creative transition between different segments.
- Historically, one way to translate the exquisite corpse to animation.

I think it's interesting to see these students' styles and subjects push and pull against one another.
